Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez each notched two goals and an assist to power Inter Miami to a 4-2 home win over CF Montreal in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday night, as per Al Jazeera.
The victory snapped a four-game winless streak in Major League Soccer play and marked only Miami’s second win in their last nine matches across all competitions.
Inter Miami (7-3-5, 26 points) climbed to sixth place in the MLS Eastern Conference with the much-needed result. Suarez, who had scored just twice in MLS before this game, doubled his season total with goals in the 68th and 71st minutes—both crucial in establishing a decisive lead.
Messi was influential from the outset, opening the scoring in the 27th minute with a long-range strike after a clever setup by Sergio Busquets. He sealed the result late in the match, converting a close-range finish from a Suarez assist in the 87th minute.
Montreal (1-10-5, 8 points) pulled two goals back through Dante Sealy and Victor Loturi, but it wasn’t enough to avoid another defeat—their 10th of the season.
Despite the win, Miami suffered setbacks as Jordi Alba, Gonzalo Lujan, and Tomas Aviles were all forced off in the first half due to injury, further depleting a squad already missing midfielder Yannick Bright.
The match highlighted the enduring chemistry between Messi and Suarez, as well as the depth of challenges Inter Miami faces heading into the second half of the season.
