A 45-year-old Egyptian national, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, who was in the United States illegally after overstaying his visa, has been arrested in connection with what authorities are calling a targeted terror attack on a pro-Israel rally in Boulder.

The attack took place during a “Run for Their Lives” event, a global movement advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, near the Boulder County Courthouse on Pearl Street. Witnesses reported that Soliman was shouting “Free Palestine” before allegedly assaulting attendees. Eight people were injured, one of them critically.

Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials confirmed that Soliman entered the United States on August 27, 2022, through Los Angeles International Airport on a non-immigrant visa. The visa expired on February 2, 2023. Despite filing an asylum claim with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in September 2022, he remained in the country unlawfully.

In March 2023, USCIS granted Soliman work authorization valid through March 2025. Critics, including White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, blamed the Biden administration’s immigration policies for enabling the attack. Miller called it a result of “suicidal migration” policies and urged a full reversal.

The FBI has labeled the incident as ideologically motivated violence and is working with local authorities to determine if it qualifies as domestic terrorism.

Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said officers responded to reports of a man wielding a weapon and setting people on fire. Soliman was taken into custody with minor injuries and is being held at the Boulder County Jail. Formal charges have not yet been announced.

The injured victims, aged between 52 and 88, were transported to local hospitals. Organizers of the weekly “Run for Their Lives” gatherings called the attack a cowardly act of hate.

The incident has intensified political criticism of U.S. immigration enforcement. Republican leaders have accused the Biden administration of failing to secure the border and allowing individuals who pose potential threats to remain in the country.

“A terror attack was committed in Boulder, Colorado, by an illegal alien,” Miller wrote on X. “He was granted a tourist visa by the Biden Administration and then illegally overstayed. In response, they gave him a work permit.”
