A 23-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after attempting to scale a wall at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, allegedly telling law enforcement that he intended to “spread the gospel” to Trump and marry his teenage granddaughter, Kai Trump.
According to booking records from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Anthony Thomas Reyes was taken into custody by the Palm Beach Police Department shortly after midnight when he triggered alarms while climbing a perimeter fence. U.S. Secret Service agents detained Reyes on the property before turning him over to local authorities.
“The individual was arrested for unlawfully entering the Mar-a-Lago Club property,” the Secret Service confirmed. “He was detained without incident and charged by Palm Beach Police with occupied trespassing.”
Reyes, who had previously been warned for trespassing at the resort on New Year’s Eve—when Trump was in residence—reportedly told officers during this latest incident that he wanted to enter the premises to evangelize the president and propose marriage to 17-year-old Kai Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr.
At the time of the breach, Trump was not at Mar-a-Lago but in Washington, D.C.
Initially charged with trespassing and held on a $1,000 bond, Reyes later saw his bond increased to $50,000, according to updated jail records. Authorities say federal charges may also be forthcoming.
This marks Reyes’s second attempt to gain entry to the Mar-a-Lago compound. His first effort during the holiday season resulted in a trespassing warning but no formal arrest at the time.
