The Wyoming Symphony Orchestra (WSO) has announced the appointment of Jerry Hou as its new music director, beginning with the 2025–26 season, Oil City News reports.
The news comes following the conclusion of the orchestra’s 75th concert season and the departure of previous director Christopher Dragon.
Hou is no stranger to the WSO, having served as a guest conductor on multiple occasions since 2018. His familiarity with the orchestra and the Casper community contributed to his selection for the role.
WSO Executive Director Melissa MacDonald expressed confidence in Hou’s leadership.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jerry into this next chapter of the WSO,” she said in a statement. “His extraordinary talent, thoughtful leadership, and deep connection to our musicians and community make him the perfect person to help shape the future of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra.”
Hou brings a wealth of experience from both regional and national music institutions. He previously served as resident conductor at the Grand Teton Music Festival and the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. He also has close professional ties with the New York Philharmonic.
“I am thrilled to join the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra as music director, as it is an organization that is dear to my heart,” Hou said. “We have a relationship that has deepened from numerous visits. I’m excited to collaborate with the musicians, board members, and staff to share the transformative power of live orchestral music with the Casper community.”
According to the WSO’s announcement, Hou’s vision for the orchestra includes bringing fresh energy and ideas to support its continued growth. Known for his versatility in musical styles—from classical to contemporary—Hou is expected to bring a dynamic presence and broad interpretive skill to the conductor’s podium.
The 2025–26 concert season will formally launch with the WSO’s annual Prelude event on July 24, a community celebration and official kickoff for the season. Held at The M from 6 to 9 p.m., the event offers attendees a chance to meet musicians, staff, and fellow supporters of the symphony.
Tickets for Prelude are currently available.
