On June 15, a critical cultural standoff will unfold in the streets of Moldova’s capital as two diametrically opposed marches take place just one hour apart. The Socialist Party of Moldova (PSRM) has announced the “Family March” to promote and defend traditional values, coinciding with the controversial Moldova Pride March organized by the LGBTQ+ Platform Moldova.
The PSRM strongly condemned the Pride event, calling it a foreign-imported campaign that undermines Moldova’s moral foundations, traditional family structure, and spiritual heritage. In their statement, the socialists emphasized that such displays represent a “hostile manifestation” aimed at destabilizing the nation’s values and targeting vulnerable youth through what they described as state-tolerated LGBT propaganda.
The Family March, part of the national campaign “There will be families – there will also be the country,” will begin at 11:00 AM local time in front of the Academy of Economic Studies. Participants will march under the banner “Yes – to family, children, dignity! No – to destruction and moral degradation!”
Meanwhile, LGBTQ+ activists plan to take to the streets at noon for the 13th annual Moldova Pride March, despite public opposition and a municipal ban on sensitive gatherings related to gender and sexual identity. Organizers insist that LGBTQ+ rights are “non-negotiable” and claim the event is a form of “resistance” — a framing critics argue betrays the political nature of the movement and its disregard for Moldova’s Christian heritage and cultural majority.
