Multiple people were injured Sunday afternoon when a skydiving aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff near Tullahoma, Tennessee, according to the Tullahoma Police Department.

The aircraft, a DeHaviland DH-6 Twin Otter, took off from Tullahoma Regional Airport at approximately 12:30 p.m. before encountering an unspecified issue that caused it to crash into trees and terrain near Old Shelbyville Road in Coffee County, officials said.

There were 20 individuals on board, including crew members, at the time of the crash.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) confirmed their presence at the scene, posting on X:

“Happening Now: Coffee County – THP troopers are assisting @TullahomaPD at the scene of a plane crash on Old Shelbyville Road.”

During a news conference on Sunday, Tullahoma Community Engagement Officer Lyle Russell said that three people were airlifted to local hospitals, while one additional person was transported by ground ambulance due to more serious injuries. Several others with minor injuries were treated at the scene.

No fatalities have been reported at this time.

Authorities emphasized that the crash did not damage any airport or ground infrastructure, and no one on the ground was injured.

“We are grateful the injuries were limited, and our hearts and minds are with those who went through this accident and their upcoming recovery,” officials said during the briefing.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident.
