A vehicle drove through a crowd of anti-ICE demonstrators in downtown Chicago Tuesday evening, as hundreds of protesters gathered in solidarity with ongoing unrest in Los Angeles and other cities over intensified immigration enforcement under President Donald Trump.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Monroe Street. Video captured by FOX 32 shows what appears to be a female driver slowly pushing through a crowd of demonstrators — some of whom were walking with protest signs or riding bicycles. A police officer attempted to stop the vehicle by hitting the driver’s side window, but the car continued forward. It remains unclear whether anyone was injured, and authorities have yet to announce if the driver will face any charges.
The protest in Chicago was part of a coordinated effort dubbed “From LA to Chicago: ICE Out!”, organized in response to federal deportation operations and a renewed immigration crackdown. The demonstrations followed days of unrest in Los Angeles, where protests escalated into rioting, arson, and widespread vandalism. Protesters there torched vehicles, attacked police with fireworks and projectiles, and looted several businesses. National Guard troops were deployed in LA earlier this week on President Trump’s orders.
While the majority of the Chicago demonstrators were peaceful, some clashed with police, vandalized squad cars, and disrupted public transit services downtown. The Chicago Police Department confirmed that multiple patrol vehicles were damaged but did not provide further details.
Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez condemned the violence on social media.
“I guess we haven’t learned,” he posted on X, referencing the damage to police property. “I’m so sick of anarchy apologists and their ‘It’s not violent, just property damage bro’ bull—-,” he added in a follow-up post.
Participants in Tuesday’s protest expressed frustration with federal immigration tactics. “People are being snatched off the street — you just gotta do something about it,” said Benjamin Rose, a demonstrator interviewed by FOX 32.
