The small Eastern European nation of Moldova is in the middle of a major political scandal concerning a conflict between the LGBT ‘pride’ agenda and the country’s deeply rooted historical conservative traditions.

This standoff started with the Moldovan EU-oriented government’s decision to green-light the LGBT march on the 15th of June in the central part of Chișinău, the capital city. As a result, several right-wing organizations gathered under the umbrella of the Moldovan Orthodox Church to host a counter-demonstration dedicated to promoting traditional pro-family values. However, Moldova’s police have violently dispersed the second crowd, arrested a priest, and detained several other people. To get a sense of what’s going on, Wyoming Star reached out to entrepreneur and political commentator Christopher Emms.

According to him, the reason for an obvious human rights violation by the government is linked with its desire to get accepted into a broader Western bloc. Emms emphasized that joining the EU today is not only about changing the national economy but also about transforming culture toward an increasingly woke ideology. Sometimes this may trigger a serious pushback from the population, which is affiliated with a completely different and more traditional set of conservative narratives. When such deadlocks happen, Brussels, as well as its sphere of influence, tend to be quite aggressive in enforcing their doctrine.

“It’s crazy to see what we have seen. This Moldovan Orthodox priest has apparently been simply exercising his democratic right to protest against a march promoting values that are completely at odds with the majority of the population of Moldova,” the analyst said.

Another interesting trend, mentioned by Emms, is that the whole LGBT agenda is still financed heavily by the European institutions and private entities like the Soros Foundation, despite the fact that the US has pulled out of internationally spreading the woke message. Therefore, this agenda is still being promoted in the post-Soviet space. But projects like that are no longer as effective as they were in the past due to a change in the people’s perspective.

“They’re still investing in changing ideology in these countries, like they did in Ukraine, according to what the Biden administration’s officials have acknowledged. However, I think the people are starting to wake up and realize. They’ve seen what’s happened to Ukraine, which rejected its own culture and replaced it with a set of Western values. That’s why people are thinking about the future of their children, grandchildren, and other generations to come, asking themselves a question: if they want a future where drag queens can come to schools and teach kids how to dance,”—he pointed out.

This process is also noticeable inside the EU, where states like Hungary or Poland are actively confronting Brussels. A common European identity, implying wokeness in all dimensions, is an artificial product without a realistic possibility to melt all the EU nations into a new liberal construct, the expert thinks.

“It’s become a Frankenstein’s monster. What started off as a common market was never meant to be anything like this. It was meant to be a trading bloc. Instead, it’s become an unelected committee, which is headed by Ursula von der Leyen, who has extremist views and is imposing them both inside the EU and abroad,” Emms concluded.
