The Wyoming Hunger Initiative, led by First Lady Jennie Gordon, and the John P. Ellbogen Foundation have announced a joint effort to distribute $120,000 to hunger relief organizations across Wyoming, Oil City News reports.
The funds will be allocated to nonprofits in each of the state’s 23 counties to address the growing demand for food assistance.
“The mission of Wyoming Hunger Initiative is to support the existing work of anti-hunger organizations across the state,” said First Lady Gordon in a statement. “It’s important to us that we allocate resources where they will have the greatest impact, as quickly as possible to meet the need as communicated by the ‘boots on the ground.'”
The funding, announced in June, will be channeled through the Wyoming Hunger Initiative’s Regional Network, which collaborates with local organizations to ensure resources reach communities efficiently and equitably.
Mary Garland, president of the John P. Ellbogen Foundation, emphasized the importance of this statewide partnership.
“We are so thankful for this partnership and for the many organizations working to meet one of the most fundamental needs in communities throughout Wyoming,” she said.
In addition to the $110,000 initially committed, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming contributed an additional $10,000 specifically designated for senior centers. This donation, made through its affiliate WyoBlue Advantage, brought the total distribution to $120,000.
