The search for Travis Decker, a 32-year-old father accused of killing his three young daughters during a court-ordered visit, has entered a darker phase as authorities acknowledge there is no concrete evidence he is still alive.

Decker, a former Army soldier with survival training, became the subject of a large-scale manhunt after his daughters — Paityn (9), Evelyn (8), and Olivia (5) — were found dead at Rock Island Campground on June 2. The girls had been reported missing after a weekend visitation that began May 30. Investigators said all three had been bound and suffocated.

His abandoned vehicle was discovered near the scene, along with camping gear and blood evidence, prompting law enforcement to believe he had fled into the wilderness. Over the past several weeks, the search effort has intensified and expanded into rugged terrain, including the Teanaway Valley, Blewett Pass, and areas surrounding Colchuck Lake.

Authorities say there have been no confirmed sightings since early June. A possible lead emerged when a lone figure was seen running from a helicopter in a restricted area near Colchuck Lake, but ground teams failed to locate the individual.

Search teams now include local deputies, National Guard units, cadaver dogs, K-9 handlers, helicopters, and drones. Officials recently introduced cadaver dogs into the search — a development signaling concern that Decker may have died while evading capture.

Despite the grim turn, law enforcement continues to treat Decker as armed and dangerous. A $20,000 reward remains in place for information leading to his arrest.

Investigators have also disclosed that Decker had researched escape routes into Canada prior to the incident. He was known to have a military background, mental health challenges, and deep knowledge of the mountainous region where he disappeared.

Sheriff’s departments from Kittitas and Chelan counties are urging hikers, hunters, and residents to report any signs of makeshift campsites, discarded clothing, or other indicators of someone surviving off-grid.

“Until we know otherwise, we continue to search,” said one official. “This remains an active case with tragic consequences, and our goal is to bring closure to the family and the community.”
