Mediator Proposes $20 Million Settlement in Trump Lawsuit Against CBS News

A mediator has proposed a $20 million settlement in the lawsuit brought by President Donald Trump against Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS News, over a disputed “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump’s lawsuit, originally filed in late 2024, alleges that CBS deliberately edited Harris’ remarks on the Israel–Hamas conflict in a way that distorted the context and misled viewers during the final weeks of the presidential campaign. He argued that the broadcast constituted media interference with the election and initially sought $10 billion in damages—later raising that figure to $20 billion.

The settlement proposal reportedly includes a $17 million payment to Trump’s presidential foundation or future presidential library, with the remaining funds allocated toward legal costs and a series of public service messages addressing antisemitism to be aired across Paramount’s platforms.

CBS and Paramount have not issued a public statement on the mediator’s proposal. While both parties have engaged in ongoing discussions, it remains unclear whether the settlement will be accepted, especially given earlier disagreements over an apology or admission of wrongdoing.

Internal fallout from the case has already affected CBS News leadership, with notable personnel changes within the network. The proposed settlement could potentially close the high-profile dispute, though Trump’s legal team has indicated they are prepared to proceed to trial if the terms are not met.
