Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been found guilty on one count of knowingly causing third-degree sexual abuse against artist Cassie Ventura, following a high-profile trial in Manhattan Supreme Court. The verdict comes after jury deliberations that emphasized consent and evidence presented over nearly two weeks.

Ventura testified that Combs physically penetrated her with a foreign object in 2017 without her consent. She detailed sustained abuse during their relationship, which began in 2007, and recounted emotional trauma she faced in its aftermath.

Combs took the stand, acknowledging the couple’s intimacy but insisting events were consensual. He expressed remorse for errors in judgment but denied any criminal intent.

In closing statements, the prosecution urged the jury to “put credibility at the center,” highlighting testimony from Ventura and corroboration from cell tower records that supported her account. Combs’ defense countered by painting Ventura as manipulative and questioning her motives.

After less than a day of deliberation, the jury delivered a verdict finding Combs guilty as charged. He faces sentencing in several months and could receive up to four years in state prison. Ventura released a brief statement after the verdict, expressing relief and courage in coming forward.

Legal experts say the conviction may reshape how intimate partner violence is prosecuted in New York, citing changes that took effect in 2022 redefining consent and forced sexual act statutes.
