Attendees of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s high-profile wedding in Venice were stranded as sudden summer storms hit the city, disrupting transportation and causing travel challenges for guests.

As the celebration at the waterfront venue continued late into the evening, unexpected rain and strong winds forced residents and event staff to scramble. Water taxi services—which many VIP guests rely on for access to island venues—were temporarily suspended, and some routes were rerouted due to choppy canal conditions.

Security teams had to arrange alternative transport, including supplemental vaporetti (water buses) and covered boats, to ferry guests between key event locations. Organizers also set up umbrellas, canopies, and shuttle boats to help guests move safely amid the turbulent weather.

Despite the inconvenience, insiders said the couple remained upbeat. “It added an impromptu, magical vibe,” one guest reportedly told Fox News, noting that festive music and responsive staff turned a disruption into an intimate moment by the water.

While the wedding party inside carried on, local residents experienced broader storm impacts. Flood barriers were temporarily activated in parts of Venice’s historic center, and gondoliers adjusted schedules after rippling water levels. City officials warned tourists to monitor weather alerts for continued instability.

The ceremony concluded without major incident, but storm-related delays delayed some guest departures into early morning hours. As Venice returns to calm, organizers say they will finalize logistical adjustments to ensure smooth disembarkation and transport for all attendees.
