President Donald Trump has warned that Americans could face a “whopping” 68% tax increase if the Senate does not pass what he described as a “historic” bill to make permanent the individual tax cuts from his 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Trump’s comments, made during a recent appearance, were aimed at rallying support for extending these tax cuts, which are currently set to expire at the end of 2025. According to Trump, failing to act could lead to one of the largest tax increases in American history, hitting families and small businesses particularly hard.

“Crooked Joe Biden and the radical left are looking to raise your taxes by a staggering 68%,” Trump said. “We can’t let that happen.”

Supporters of the bill argue that maintaining these tax cuts will help keep the economy strong and protect working families from financial strain amid ongoing inflation concerns. Critics, however, have raised concerns about the impact of extending these cuts on the national deficit.
