Chinese authorities have issued a red alert—the highest level warning—for heavy rain in northern and western regions following severe flooding that has already caused casualties and widespread damage.
The National Meteorological Center reported that torrential downpours are expected over the next 48 hours across parts of Inner Mongolia, Gansu, and Shaanxi, potentially bringing rainfall rates of 80 to 150 millimeters in some areas. Authorities have urged residents to remain alert to flash floods, landslides, and disrupted transport.
Recent floods have claimed at least a dozen lives and forced the evacuation of thousands in affected provinces. Rescue teams have been dispatched to swiftly reinforce river embankments, clear debris, and assist communities facing waterlogged homes and infrastructure breakdown.
Local governments have also suspended classes in flood-hit zones, halted large public events, and reminded officials and residents to avoid risk-prone areas near rivers and slopes. Emergency services are preparing for rapid response to evolving weather threats, while transportation authorities have warned of possible road closures and flight delays.
