Rep. Jayapal Stands by ‘Terrorist Force’ Remark on ICE, Demands White House Apology

Representative Pramila Jayapal defended her controversial statement referring to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a “terrorist force,” asserting that her comments reflect ongoing abuses and that the White House owes the American public an apology for its enforcement tactics.

Jayapal made the remark during a recent congressional hearing, criticizing the agency’s sweeping authority and aggressive enforcement practices. She said that ICE’s actions during certain immigration raids “terrorize immigrant communities” and called for reforms to hold the agency accountable.
Her remarks prompted backlash from ICE officials and some lawmakers, who accused her of inflammatory rhetoric. Jayapal responded by clarifying she was not accusing individual agents of terrorism but was highlighting the broader impact of ICE operations.
“The White House has a responsibility to address these concerns and to acknowledge how enforcement policies have caused fear in communities across the country,” Jayapal said during an interview following the hearing.
Her office has called on the administration to issue a formal apology and review ICE’s practices, including enhanced training and oversight measures to prevent abuses of power.
