American Legion baseball teams across Wyoming had a full slate of games and tournament action during the week of June 30 to July 6, as the summer season continues to heat up, WyoPreps reports.
From key conference matchups to out-of-state tournaments, players showcased their talent despite weather-related delays and a handful of forfeits.
Monday, June 30
The Cody Cubs got off to a strong start, defeating the Billings Blue Jays twice, 3–1 and 15–5. The Wheatland Lobos picked up two conference wins by forfeit over the Buffalo Bulls.
Tuesday, July 1
Conference games were the highlight, with the Gillette Riders sweeping the Cheyenne Sixers in two tight games. Riley Schilling earned the win in the opener, and Hawk sealed the extra-inning second game with a bunt.
The Casper Oilers dominated Rock Springs, winning 10–4 and then 24–0 behind Devereaux’s two home runs and 9 RBIs. The Casper Drillers also swept the Torrington Tigers.
In other action, the Cheyenne Hawks had a pair of high-scoring wins over Colorado teams, and the Douglas Cats and Gillette Rustlers split a doubleheader, each team earning a win.
The Lovell Mustangs bounced back from a 12–6 loss to the Laurel Dodgers with a 3–2 win, thanks to a two-run homer from Tucker Jackson. Evanston edged Green River in a pair of high-scoring conference matchups. Laramie Rangers A picked up two forfeit wins against Buffalo.
Wednesday, July 2
Billings and Powell split a pair of games. Billings took the first 8–5, while Powell responded with a 7-run sixth inning to win the second game 8–7.
Thursday, July 3
The Sheridan Troopers shut out the Jackson Giants in both ends of a conference doubleheader, backed by strong pitching performances and timely hitting. The Douglas Cats picked up two forfeit conference wins over the Buffalo Bulls.
At the Cheyenne Firecracker Tournament, the Sixers posted big wins over teams from Colorado, including a 13–6 comeback victory over the Catalyst Cardinals.
The Cheyenne Hawks downed the Rocky Mountain Oysters 9–1, while the Sheridan Jets dropped two games in the Hargens/Leisy Tournament in Gillette. Weather delayed some other games.
Friday, July 4
The Bolln Wood Bat Tournament in Douglas began, while tournament action continued in Cheyenne, Gillette, and Jamestown, North Dakota.
Highlights included the Cheyenne Sixers and Hawks hosting out-of-state teams and the Gillette Riders facing Canadian squads at the Phil Brown Classic. Casper Oilers and Laramie Rangers AA were both in action in multiple matchups throughout the day.
Saturday, July 5
The Cody Cubs were scheduled to take on the Sheridan Troopers, while the Bolln Wood Bat Tournament featured full action, including games between the Evanston Outlaws, Wheatland Lobos, Powell Pioneers, and others.
In Cheyenne, the Firecracker Tournament continued with several Wyoming teams playing against visiting clubs. Meanwhile, the Phil Brown Classic featured the Gillette Riders against Bonivital Black Sox.
Sunday, July 6
The week wrapped up with a full schedule of tournament bracket games, including the championship match of the Bolln Wood Bat Tournament in Douglas.
The Casper Drillers were scheduled to host the Buffalo Bulls in a conference doubleheader, and final games for the Cheyenne Sixers, Hawks, Casper Oilers, and Laramie Rangers AA were slated to conclude the Firecracker Tournament.
