A United Nations-appointed human rights expert has called on countries around the world to cease trade with Israel, accusing its government of engaging in an “economy of genocide.” The expert claims that economic relations and military support are enabling actions that disproportionately affect Palestinian civilians.

In her report to the UN Human Rights Council, the expert detailed how arms sales, investment flows, and trade agreements are contributing to the continuation of hostilities in Gaza. She argues that these economic ties, without accountability, are facilitating operations that breach international humanitarian and human rights law standards.

The call highlights specific sectors, including defense contracts for surveillance equipment and weapons systems, as well as partnerships involving financial services and infrastructure investment. The expert stressed that severing these connections could pressure policymakers in Israel to change their approach and adhere to international norms.

Israel has not issued an official response to the report. Supporters of existing trade ties with Israel argue that such engagements are vital for regional economic stability and security cooperation.
