Iran at a “Decision Point” After Trump’s Strikes on Nuclear Sites, Says U.S. NATO Ambassador

Iran is at a critical “decision point” following recent U.S. airstrikes targeting its nuclear infrastructure, according to U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker, who urged Tehran to pursue peace rather than escalate tensions in the region.
Speaking in a Sunday interview, Whitaker stated that the strikes, ordered by President Trump, were aimed at disrupting Iran’s nuclear ambitions and reinforcing the U.S. stance that Iran will not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon. The ambassador emphasized that while the United States is open to dialogue, it remains prepared to take further action if Iran continues its current trajectory.
“The United States has made it clear that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, and now is the time for Iran to choose whether it will move forward toward peace or risk further confrontation,” Whitaker said.
The ambassador also highlighted the broader security context, noting concerns about potential sleeper cells and the need for NATO partners to remain vigilant amid rising regional tensions. Whitaker added that the United States continues to monitor threats closely and will work with allies to counter any attempts by Iran to retaliate.
The recent strikes have drawn mixed reactions globally, with some countries urging restraint while others have backed the U.S. position that action was necessary to prevent Iran from crossing key nuclear thresholds. Inside Iran, officials have condemned the strikes as acts of aggression, vowing to defend their sovereignty while signaling continued commitment to their nuclear program.
