A 54-year-old Wyoming man has died following a single-vehicle crash on Route 287/Wyoming Highway 789 near mile marker 78.68, according to a preliminary report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), Oil City News reports.

The incident involved Clyde Winchester, who was driving a Chevrolet Silverado when the vehicle veered sharply to the right and entered the southbound borrow ditch. The truck then vaulted off the side of a steep drainage canal and struck the opposite embankment, the WHP report stated.

According to a witness account, the vehicle had been negotiating a slight left-hand curve before making the sudden right turn. Road conditions at the time were clear, and no other vehicles were involved.

The report also indicated that Winchester was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He died at the scene, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

As of this incident, 55 highway fatalities have been recorded in Wyoming in 2025, compared to 52 at this point in 2024, 68 in 2023, and 50 in 2022.
