The City of Lander is preparing to host two major events at City Park in the coming days, and residents are advised to expect increased activity in and around the area, Wyoming News Now reports.
While the park will remain open to the public, visitors should anticipate higher traffic volumes, more pedestrian movement, and temporary event infrastructure throughout the week.
First, the International Climbers’ Festival will take place from July 10 to 13, drawing climbers and outdoor enthusiasts from across Wyoming, the US, and abroad. Established in 1994, the festival has become a signature event for Lander, celebrating climbing culture through clinics, community gatherings, and live entertainment—all centered around City Park.
Immediately following the festival, Tour de Wyoming, a weeklong supported bicycle tour, will roll into town with over 300 cyclists. Riders are expected to arrive in Lander on July 14, traveling from Riverton via Sweetwater Station and Beaver Rim. Cyclists will spend two nights in the area, including a rest day on July 15, during which they’ll explore local routes such as Sinks Canyon, Squaw Creek, and Baldwin Creek. They’ll depart for Dubois the morning of July 16.
To support both events, the city has approved overflow tent camping—by permit only—in the grassy area west of the City Park stage. This designated area will be reserved exclusively for event participants and will revert to standard park use after the events conclude. The rest of the park, including playgrounds, picnic areas, and open space, will remain accessible to the general public.
The city also reminds visitors that the open space west of the playground and stage is not a designated parking area. To help preserve this part of the park, a new gate is being installed along Fremont Street to limit vehicle access. This gate may be temporarily opened for specific event-related needs, such as loading and unloading, with prior coordination through the Parks and Recreation Department.
For more information or questions about these events and park use, residents can contact City Hall at (307) 332-2870.
