U.S. Envoy Hints at Gaza Ceasefire Deal “Close to Being Finalized”

U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff has announced that negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza are advancing toward a potential agreement, with discussions reaching what he described as the “final stages” amid mounting pressure to halt the ongoing conflict and address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region.
Speaking after a series of meetings with regional partners, including mediators from Egypt and Qatar, Witkoff stated that the key elements of the proposed ceasefire include a temporary pause in fighting, the release of hostages, and expanded humanitarian aid corridors to allow critical supplies into Gaza. He emphasized that discussions have been “intense and productive,” reflecting a shared urgency among all parties to reduce civilian suffering.
“The outlines of an agreement are becoming clearer, and we are working hard to finalize the details,” Witkoff said, adding that maintaining open aid corridors and ensuring the safety of civilians are central components of the talks.
While Witkoff did not provide a specific timeline for the ceasefire, he noted that progress has been made in narrowing disagreements and expressed cautious optimism that a framework for a truce could be announced in the coming days if momentum is maintained.
The negotiations come amid continued military operations in Gaza and rising casualties, drawing increasing calls from humanitarian organizations and international observers for an immediate ceasefire to protect civilians and facilitate aid deliveries.
