Federal Agents Clash with Protesters During Immigration Raids on California Cannabis Farms

Federal agents clashed with protesters during immigration raids on cannabis farms in Southern California, leading to multiple arrests and hospitalizations.
The raids targeted two Glass House Farms facilities in Carpinteria and Camarillo, where U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, supported by National Guard units, served warrants as part of an operation addressing undocumented workers employed in the cannabis industry.
Protesters attempted to block access to the facilities, resulting in confrontations where agents used tear gas and smoke canisters to disperse crowds. Authorities reported that around 100 farmworkers were detained during the raids, with three individuals hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the clashes.
In one incident in Camarillo, an individual attempting to flee reportedly fired a shot at federal agents. No injuries to law enforcement officers were reported in connection with the gunfire.
Local officials, including Oxnard Mayor Luis McArthur, criticized the enforcement operation, calling the tactics “militarized” and expressing concern over the impact on local agricultural operations and food supply chains. McArthur, who was denied entry to the facilities during the raid, stated that the community would continue to support workers and ensure their safety.
The raids are part of broader federal efforts to enforce immigration laws within the agricultural and cannabis sectors. Supporters of the actions argue they are necessary to maintain legal employment practices, while critics warn they could disrupt farm operations and harm local economies.
