John MacArthur, one of the most prominent voices in American evangelical circles, has died at the age of 86 after a long struggle with illness, according to his family and church leaders.
“Our hearts are heavy, yet rejoicing, as we share the news that our beloved pastor and teacher John MacArthur has entered into the presence of the Savior,” the X account of “Grace to You” media wrote. “This evening, his faith became sight. He faithfully endured until his race was run.”
For more than 60 years, MacArthur led Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California.
He was widely known for his deep commitment to Scripture, his conservative theological stance, and his clear, unwavering preaching. Through his television and radio program, Grace to You, and a long list of published works, MacArthur reached audiences around the world.
Church leaders expressed deep gratitude for his decades of leadership, saying he remained a steady and guiding presence in the congregation until his health declined. His family, including his daughter, is expected to share more details later this week.
MacArthur’s legacy stretches far beyond his own pulpit. He was a regular speaker at major evangelical conferences and helped shape the way many pastors approach ministry today.
