A high-speed crash off Interstate 25 south of Wheatland turned deadly over the weekend, and now the Wyoming Highway Patrol is digging into what went wrong, Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports.

On Saturday at 12:48 p.m., a crash occurred south of Wheatland on Interstate 25, near Exit 68.

A 2011 Dodge Caravan, traveling southbound, entered the exit ramp at high speed, ignoring the posted 25 mph limit.
The van went straight off the ramp, hit a guardrail, went airborne, and landed at the bottom of an embankment, where it rolled once.

The driver, Larry Pendleton, 55, of Chugwater, was airlifted to UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Colorado. Sadly, he died from his injuries the following day.

Authorities are looking into several factors:

    • Excessive speed
    • Driver inattention
    • A possible medical emergency

It was also confirmed Pendleton wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

So far in 2025, there have been 64 traffic fatalities on Wyoming highways.

As always, the Wyoming Highway Patrol is urging drivers to slow down, buckle up, and stay alert — especially when navigating sharp exits or ramps that often have drastically lower speed limits.
