It’s postseason time for Wyoming Legion Baseball, and two of the state’s top squads are headed out of town to chase regional glory — and maybe a shot at the national stage.

The Gillette Roughriders and Lovell Mustangs are repping the Cowboy State this week in two big-time Northwest Regional Tournaments, each featuring an eight-team, double-elimination format. Here’s a quick rundown of where they’re headed and who they’re up against.

The Riders are rolling into Billings, Montana for the AA Northwest Regional Tournament at Dehler Park, running Aug. 6–10. First pitch? Bright and early at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, when Gillette squares off against Service (Anchorage, AK) Cougars in Game 1.

The winner advances through a packed bracket including teams from Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Idaho. A spot in the American Legion World Series in Shelby, NC (Aug. 14–19) is on the line.

Riders’ Opening Game

  • Wed, Aug. 6 – Gillette vs. Service (Anchorage, AK) @ 9:30 a.m.

Full tournament schedule includes potential matchups through Sunday’s championship game — and even a “Game 15” if things get wild.

Fresh off their state title win, the Lovell Mustangs are off to Burley, Idaho, for the Northwest Class A Regional Tournament (NWCART). The tourney runs Aug. 7–11 and pits them against teams from across the West, including Utah, Oregon, Montana, and Alaska.

Lovell opens play Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., going head-to-head with the hometown Burley Green Sox under the lights.

Mustangs’ Opening Game

  • Thurs, Aug. 7 – Lovell vs. Burley (ID) Green Sox @ 7:30 p.m.

If the Mustangs win their opener, they’ll keep pushing toward Sunday’s semifinals and potentially Monday’s championship game. A double-elimination format means there’s a chance to battle back even after a loss.

Both tournaments are stepping stones to the national spotlight — Gillette is aiming for a trip to Shelby, NC, while Lovell is chasing Class A bragging rights at the regional level.

With high-stakes games, tight brackets, and top-tier talent across the board, this week’s action is must-watch for Wyoming baseball fans. Stay tuned to WyoPreps for updates, scores, and highlights as both teams fight for postseason glory.
