Manchester United have pulled off a major summer signing, snapping up Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig on a contract running until 2030.

The 22-year-old arrives for a hefty €76.5m ($89m) fee, with another €8.5m ($9.9m) in potential add-ons. Sesko made his name in Austria with RB Salzburg before moving to Leipzig in 2023, where he netted 39 goals in 87 games across all competitions.

Speaking after the deal was confirmed on Saturday, Sesko couldn’t hide his excitement:

The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment. It’s the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil my ambitions.

He’s also eager to work with new boss Ruben Amorim and link up with his teammates as United aim to bounce back from a disappointing 15th-place Premier League finish last season.

Sesko joins fellow attacking recruits Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, with the new campaign kicking off at Old Trafford against Arsenal on August 17.

United weren’t the only club chasing him – Newcastle United were also keen as they search for a replacement for wantaway striker Alexander Isak – but it’s the Red Devils who’ve won the race.
