Trump, Putin to Meet in Alaska on August 15 to Discuss Ukraine Peace Framework

United States President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska to discuss a possible roadmap toward ending the conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking on Friday at the White House while hosting leaders from Armenia and Azerbaijan, Trump confirmed the summit, calling it the next step in his ongoing diplomatic efforts.
“We are going to have a meeting with Russia. We’ll start off with Russia,” he said.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov also confirmed the meeting, describing Alaska as a “logical” and convenient location for both sides.
Trump said the talks could involve “some swapping” of territory — a concept that has long been part of international discussions over a possible settlement.
“It’s very complicated. But we’re going to get some back, and we’re going to get some switched. There’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both,” he said.
While Ukraine and several of its European partners have expressed reluctance toward agreements involving territorial adjustments, Moscow has maintained that any final arrangement should address the status of certain regions and future security guarantees.
The summit will take place despite logistical questions raised over recent weeks about where such a meeting could occur. The United States is not a member of the International Criminal Court, removing potential legal complications over Putin’s travel. Earlier proposals had considered the United Arab Emirates, but Trump confirmed via Truth Social that Alaska had been chosen.
