Another airman at F.E. Warren Air Force Base is facing serious charges after a deadly shooting in Cheyenne — the second such case in less than a month.

Airman First Class Jadan Orr, 20, was arrested early Saturday after allegedly firing an AK-47 rifle through the wall of a Cheyenne apartment, killing a 23-year-old man on the other side, according to police. Orr remains in jail on involuntary manslaughter charges.

Investigators say Orr had been drinking with friends most of the night before he and two others went into a bedroom where the rifle was. At some point, Orr reportedly picked up the weapon, loaded it, and fired a round into the adjoining living room, striking the victim in the torso. Despite efforts by people at the scene to save him, the man died before police arrived. His name has not yet been released by authorities.

Court records show Orr doesn’t yet have an attorney.

The shooting comes just weeks after another airman at the base was charged in connection with the July 20 death of Airman Brayden Lovan, 21, who was fatally shot by a Sig Sauer M18 handgun while on duty. That case is being handled by military prosecutors and triggered an Air Force–wide inspection of the weapon, which has faced lawsuits claiming it can fire without the trigger being pulled.

In Saturday’s incident, the weapon involved wasn’t military-issued but a personal AK-47 rifle. Even so, the death has rattled the base community.

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends and teammates affected by this tragic loss,” said Col. Terry Holmes, commander of the 90th Missile Wing at F.E. Warren. “We are fully supporting the investigation and remain committed to taking care of our airmen and their families during this extremely difficult time.”

The two back-to-back manslaughter cases have put Wyoming’s only Air Force base in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. The Air Force has not released details on whether the incidents are related beyond their timing, but both are under active investigation.
