The legal storm around New York City Mayor Eric Adams just got worse. Prosecutors in Manhattan have rolled out four new indictments against his longtime ally, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, her son Glenn Martin II, and seven others — accusing them of running a “wide-ranging series of bribery conspiracies.”

Lewis-Martin, once dubbed the “Lioness of City Hall,” had been one of Adams’s closest advisers until she resigned last December under corruption clouds. Now she and her son are accused of pocketing tens of thousands of dollars, fancy catering spreads (think crab cakes and salmon), and even a role on the TV series Godfather of Harlem in exchange for fast-tracking permits, blocking bike lanes, and steering contracts.

District Attorney Alvin Bragg said Lewis-Martin “put personal profit over the people of New York,” overriding public servants to line her pockets.

This isn’t the first scandal to hit Adams’s circle. Other close aides have also quit amid corruption probes, and Adams himself has been dragged into the spotlight. Last year, federal prosecutors accused him of taking bribes — including free flights and luxury perks linked to Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan — before the Trump administration’s Justice Department dropped the charges shortly after Trump’s return to office.

The move drew protests from career prosecutors, some of whom quit in anger. A federal judge even hinted the case smelled like a political bargain.

With the 2025 New York mayoral race just months away, the indictments land at a critical time. Adams, who once ran as a centrist Democrat but now brands himself independent and closer to President Donald Trump, faces a fierce challenge from progressive Zohran Mamdani.

Trump, while defending Adams from some investigations, hasn’t hidden his disdain for Mamdani, calling him a “communist” on the campaign trail.
