Laramie County’s reign as the cheapest place to fill up in Wyoming didn’t last long. Just a week after undercutting Natrona County for the top spot, local prices shot up 19 cents, dropping the county to third place in the state.
The bump mirrors a slight national uptick — the first in three weeks — with the US average climbing 3.4 cents to $3.12 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. Wyoming’s average ticked up just 1 cent to $3.09. Meanwhile, Natrona County reclaimed its crown, sliding to $2.71 a gallon on average, the lowest in the state.
Laramie County’s average now sits at $2.86, just above Albany County’s $2.83. Still, bargain hunters can shave more at the pump: Sam’s Club on Dell Range is offering $2.63, with Walmart and Loaf ‘N Jug stations close behind in the $2.68 range.
Nationally, the price shuffle came after storms temporarily knocked out a major Midwest refinery, pushing up prices across Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
“Expect only moderate gas price fluctuations, with the potential for lower prices arriving later this fall,” said Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s petroleum analyst.
For now, Wyoming drivers are still paying well below the $4.50 sticker shock in California, but the Cowboy State’s brief cheap-gas bragging rights are already gone.
