Cristiano Ronaldo just made more football history, but it wasn’t enough to win silverware.
The 40-year-old became the first player ever to score 100 competitive goals for four different clubs, netting in the Saudi Super Cup final on Saturday. His penalty against Al-Ahli at Hong Kong Stadium brought him to a century for Al-Nassr, adding to his 450 goals for Real Madrid, 145 for Manchester United, and 101 for Juventus.
That puts him ahead of legends like Isidro Langara, Romario, and Neymar, who each managed the 100-goal feat at three clubs.
Oh, and let’s not forget — Ronaldo’s also the world’s top international scorer, with 138 for Portugal.
Ronaldo’s first-half penalty put Al-Nassr 1-0 up, but Franck Kessie equalised almost immediately. Late drama followed: Marcelo Brozovic thought he’d sealed it with a goal seven minutes from time, only for Brazilian defender Ibanez to level with a header.
Penalties decided it. Ronaldo scored his kick, but teammate Abdullah Al-Khaibari missed, handing Al-Ahli a 5-3 shootout win — and the first trophy of the Saudi season.
For Ronaldo, it’s another personal milestone in a career stacked with records. But he’s still chasing his first major trophy in Saudi Arabia — and judging by his reaction at full-time, that fact stings more than the stat sheet.
