Trump Says Gaza War Should End Soon, But US Support for Israel Continues

United States President Donald Trump has suggested that Israel’s devastating war on Gaza could soon come to an end, even as global outrage mounts over the atrocities being committed daily — from civilian massacres and the killings of journalists and medics, to famine caused by Israel’s blockade.
“I think within the next two to three weeks, you’re going to have pretty good, conclusive ending,” Trump told reporters on Monday.
The US president has made similar promises before, but despite the rhetoric, his administration continues to arm Israel with billions in weapons and block international recognition of a Palestinian state. Aid to Gaza remains tightly restricted, leaving Palestinians trapped in worsening conditions.
“It’s got to get over with because between the hunger and all of the other problems, worse than hunger, death, pure death, people [are] being killed,” Trump said.
Earlier this year, Trump even floated the idea of removing all Palestinians from Gaza — a plan amounting to ethnic cleansing.
On Monday, when pressed about Israel’s latest strike on Nasser Hospital that killed 21 Palestinians, including five journalists, Trump admitted:
“Well, I’m not happy about it. I don’t want to see it. At the same time, we have to end that whole nightmare.”
He then quickly shifted focus to efforts on releasing Israeli captives.
