Air Methods just planted a permanent air medical base at Evanston Regional Hospital, adding a round-the-clock helicopter to serve southwestern Wyoming and northeastern Utah. The new hub—Wyoming Life Flight 3—went live this week, expanding rapid critical-care coverage for locals and visitors alike.
The Evanston crew will fly 24/7, fielding everything from trauma, strokes, heart attacks, burns, and pediatric emergencies to high-risk obstetric and neonatal cases. They’ll also handle interfacility transfers when patients need specialized treatment elsewhere—often slashing transport time by about half compared with going by ground.
“We’re excited to bring the people of Uinta County and the surrounding areas faster access to advanced critical care,” said Erik Bornemeier, account executive at Air Methods. “Wyoming Life Flight is committed to being mission-ready whenever and wherever our services are needed.”
Wyoming Life Flight 3 flies an AS350 helicopter outfitted as a flying ICU, stocked with advanced meds, whole blood for transfusions, and a Zoll AutoPulse NXT device for automated chest compressions during flight.
“Having Wyoming Life Flight establish a permanent base on Evanston’s helipad is a tremendous benefit to our community,” said Bob Moore, interim CEO of Evanston Regional Hospital. “This collaboration will significantly reduce transfer times—often cutting them in half—so patients get timely, specialized care.”
The new base plugs into Air Methods’ Mountain West network: Wyoming Life Flight in Casper (rotor and fixed-wing) and AirLife Utah rotor-wing sites in Brigham City and Lehi. Together, they form a regional critical-care ecosystem designed to move patients fast when minutes matter.
Air Methods says it remains in-network with most insurers and offers patient advocacy services to keep air medical transport as accessible and affordable as possible. The company also recently teamed up with Mauna Loa Helicopters to help bring more pilots into the HEMS (helicopter emergency medical services) pipeline.
