An 18-year-old driver was killed late Saturday after her car struck a loose bull north of Sheridan, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 10:46 p.m. on Sept. 6 near mile marker 3 on WYO 338. Troopers say a Black Angus bull had gotten out, and a patrol officer was trying to move it back into a fenced area when the animal entered the roadway, crossed the center line, and moved into the southbound lane.

Laylie Laumbach, driving a southbound Honda Accord, apparently didn’t see the bull in time and collided with it. The impact sent the car off the right side of the road, through a right-of-way fence, and into a tree in a river-bottom, where it came to an uncontrolled stop.

Laumbach was wearing a seat belt, but she didn’t survive the crash.

Highway Patrol lists Laumbach as the 82nd highway fatality in Wyoming this year. The incident remains under investigation.
