Cheyenne police are investigating a deadly shooting that unfolded Saturday night in the busy retail corridor along Dell Range Boulevard.

According to the Cheyenne Police Department, officers were dispatched at 9:06 p.m. to reports of shots fired in the 3700 block of Dell Range Blvd., directly in front of King Soopers. When they arrived, officers found a person with an apparent gunshot wound. That individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second person — believed to be the shooter — was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived, police said. Investigators emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The supermarket anchors a strip mall that also includes several restaurants, a gas station, and small businesses, and the area drew a heavy police presence late into the night as officers secured the scene. Patrol cars blocked portions of the parking lot as investigators worked under floodlights, and shoppers were diverted away from the storefronts nearest the crime scene.

As of early Sunday, authorities had not released the names of either the victim or the person in custody. Additional details about what led to the shooting were not immediately available.
