The Bureau of Land Management has opened a 30-day public comment window on a plan to include 68 oil and gas parcels — about 94,465 acres across Wyoming — in a March 2026 lease sale. The clock’s already running: comments are due by October 30, 2025.
BLM finished scoping these parcels in August and now wants feedback on which tracts should advance, what might be deferred, and whether the environmental analysis captures the on-the-ground realities. That input will shape the agency’s final review of each parcel before anything heads to auction.
It’s worth remembering that leasing is only the first step. No one can start work without an approved Application for Permit to Drill that lays out the development plan. BLM posts those permits for public review, runs its own environmental analysis, and coordinates with state partners, tribes, and other stakeholders. Any parcels that do make a sale come with stipulations aimed at protecting wildlife, water, cultural resources, and other sensitive assets.
If you want to weigh in, BLM has parcel details, maps, and submission instructions on its ePlanning site. Information on current and upcoming sales also lives in the National Fluid Lease Sale System, and when the time comes, lease auctions are held online through EnergyNet.
