Shorter hours ahead at AIS boat check stations

Shorter hours ahead at AIS boat check stations
Wyoming Game & Fish Department

As the days get shorter and temps dip, aquatic invasive species watercraft check stations in the Laramie Region are moving to reduced hours.

From Thursday through Sunday, the I-80 Port of Entry in Cheyenne operates 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the I-25 Welcome Center in Cheyenne runs a bit longer from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Hwy 287 Port of Entry in Laramie is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Torrington Port of Entry keeps the same 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. window. Grayrocks Reservoir and Platte Valley are closed for the season.

If you need an inspection when those stations aren’t open, call the Laramie Regional Office or the Cheyenne Headquarters Office, or set up an appointment with a private inspector. Wyoming law still applies: from March 1 through November 30, any watercraft entering the state must be inspected for AIS before launching.

If your route won’t take you past an open check station, reach out to the Laramie Regional Office to arrange one. And year-round, if your boat was last used on waters known to have zebra or quagga mussels, you must get inspected before launching in Wyoming. For the full why-it-matters and how-to-help, the program’s website has the details.
