Wyoming’s Pump Relief While the US Pays a Bit More

Wyoming drivers got a small break at the pump this week just as the national average nudged higher. Regular gas across the state slid 4.4 cents to about $2.86 a gallon, based on GasBuddy’s read of 494 stations. That puts prices 16.6 cents below where they were a month ago and 26.6 cents under last year’s mark. On Sunday, the spread inside the state was a full $1.29 — from a low of $2.45 to a high of $3.74 — so where you fill up still matters.

Zoom out, and the national picture looks a touch pricier. The US average climbed 2.5 cents to $3.00 a gallon. It’s still cheaper than a month ago by 10.8 cents and down 7.4 cents from a year earlier, but the direction flipped this week. Diesel, meanwhile, ticked up 4.7 cents to $3.64 a gallon nationwide.

Regional drivers are seeing a mixed bag. Fort Collins bumped almost a nickel to about $2.77. Ogden eased to $3.21. Billings sits right on the national line at $3.00 after a slight dip. In other words: Wyoming remains a relative bargain in the neighborhood, even if you might grumble at the register in certain zip codes.

What’s behind the split-screen? Parts of the Midwest saw a quick run-up after a refinery fire punched wholesale prices higher, GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan said, which bled into the national average. He expects relief as supply normalizes. There’s also a wild card in crude: optimism around a potential US–China trade deal can lift oil prices, which could keep the national average hovering above $3 for a few more weeks before easing into the Thanksgiving travel window.

For perspective, Wyoming was at $3.12 on this date in 2024, $3.54 in 2023, and $3.65 in 2022. The long arc shows plenty of volatility, but right now the state’s sitting comfortably below those recent Octobers — and under the country as a whole. If you’re hunting for the best price this week, the gap between the cheapest and priciest stations says it all: a short detour could save more than a dollar a gallon.
