Wyoming State Parks puts 18 Hot Springs bison up for bid
Bison at Hot Springs State Park (Wyoming State Parks)

If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a bison, now might be your shot, County 10 reports.

Wyoming State Parks is taking sealed bids for 18 bison from the state herd at Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis. Bids will be accepted at park headquarters until 4 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2025.

Here’s what’s on the list:

  • 5 heifer calves (2025);
  • 10 bull calves (2025);
  • 2 yearling heifers (2024);
  • 1 cow born in 2006.

All of the animals are fully vaccinated. The state has set minimum bids for each category:

  • $1,000 for 2025 heifer calves;
  • $1,100 for 2025 bull calves;
  • $1,200 for yearling heifers;
  • $1,000 for the 2006 cow.

Buyers can bid on one animal, a few, or all 18. For each bison, the highest qualifying bid at or above the minimum will win, based on the state’s official sales list.

If your bid is selected, you can start picking up animals on Dec. 9. You’ll need to arrange your own transportation — the park isn’t offering delivery — and payment must be made to the Hot Springs State Park Superintendent within seven days of being notified that you’ve won.
