Anyone in need of a warm meal or a little holiday hope is invited to the Wyoming Rescue Mission’s annual Community Thanksgiving Meal at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
The free community lunch will be held at the Mission’s Park Street Center, located at 230 N. Park St.
“Having a hot Thanksgiving meal for those dealing with homelessness sparks profound hope and gratitude for our guests at Wyoming Rescue Mission,” said Executive Director Brad Hopkins. “Thanks to an incredibly generous community, this will be an unforgettable Thanksgiving for homeless guests on their journey to independence and a home of their own.”
Everyone who attends will be treated to a traditional Thanksgiving feast, including:
- Roast turkey;
- Mashed potatoes and gravy;
- Green bean casserole;
- Assorted pies for dessert;
- And other classic holiday sides.
The meal is being prepared and served by mission staff and volunteers, including several community leaders, “showcasing the compassion and generosity of several Wyomingites,” the Mission said in a release.
The Wyoming Rescue Mission is also publicly thanking the many local partners helping make the meal possible, including:
- American Petroleum Institute – Central Wyoming Chapter;
- Wyoming Hunger Initiative;
- First Interstate Bank;
- Platte Valley Bank;
- Sam’s Club;
- Banner Health;
- Walmart Casper – Cy Ave;
- Walmart – East;
- Ridley’s Family Markets;
- And many others.
“This collective generosity exemplifies the compassionate spirit of our community and its profound impact on those in need,” the Mission said.
The Thanksgiving event is part of a much bigger effort.
Between November and December this year, the Wyoming Rescue Mission expects to:
- Serve 21,468 meals;
- Provide 12,225 nights of shelter to people who need a safe place to sleep.
The Mission notes that a donation of just $2.58 can provide a hot meal for someone in need and help “restore hope and transform lives.”
