Wyoming drivers are getting a little relief at the pump this week, with average gas prices slipping another 4.7 cents over the past seven days. According to GasBuddy’s survey of 494 stations statewide, a gallon of regular now averages $2.71 across Wyoming, Laramie Live reports.
That’s 18.1 cents cheaper than a month ago and 24.2 cents less than this time last year. Diesel is easing up too — the national average for diesel fell 5.5 cents to $3.72 per gallon.
Prices are all over the map depending on where you fill up. GasBuddy reports the cheapest station in Wyoming was at $2.16 a gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive hit $3.35 — a spread of $1.19 per gallon.
Nationwide, it’s a similar story. The US average price of gasoline dropped 8.5 cents in the last week to $2.95 per gallon. That’s down 6.9 cents from a month ago and 5.4 cents from a year ago, based on data from more than 150,000 stations.
Compared to recent years, Wyoming’s sitting on the cheaper side of the curve. Today’s $2.71 average is below the $2.95 mark recorded on Dec. 1, 2024, continuing the usual up-and-down pattern we’ve seen over the last decade. Nearby areas are seeing similar drops:
- Fort Collins: $2.48/gal (down 11.3 cents);
- Ogden: $2.97/gal (down 8.4 cents);
- Billings: $2.95/gal (down 2.8 cents).
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said nearly every state saw prices fall heading into Thanksgiving, with the national average dipping below $3 for several days. With refinery maintenance mostly wrapped up, OPEC boosting production, and seasonal demand easing, oil prices have been under pressure — and that’s translating into cheaper gas.
A few stations around the country are already posting prices under $2 a gallon, and De Haan says more could follow as we move deeper into the holiday season — good timing for anyone planning road trips to close out the year.
