Wyoming is no stranger to wind, but even by our standards, this one’s nasty.

Since yesterday morning, most of the state has been under a high wind warning, with gusts blasting through at 75 to 90 mph in some areas.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol is begging drivers — especially truckers and anyone towing — to take this seriously. On its Facebook page, WHP shared photos of an overturned semi and a blunt warning:

“Extreme blow over risk!”

Troopers say they’ve already seen multiple blowovers, and conditions are bad enough that Interstate 25 is closed to light, high-profile vehicles from Colorado all the way to Sheridan. The stretch from Colorado to Wheatland is called out as especially dangerous.

According to WHP, the wind is “downright dangerous” for anyone:

  • Hauling a lighter load;
  • Pulling a camper;
  • Running an empty commercial trailer;
  • Or weighing under 60,000 pounds gross vehicle weight.

Their advice? Hunker down and stay off the interstate if that’s you.

The high winds are expected to continue through tonight and into Wednesday.

WHP’s final message:

“Be safe out there, folks!”
