If you’ve been thinking about donating to help feed Wyoming families, this December is the time.

Thanks to a generous pledge from the John P. Ellbogen Foundation, every dollar given to the Food Bank of Wyoming this month will be matched dollar for dollar up to $125,000.

The need is high. According to the Food Bank, food insecurity in Wyoming is at a 10-year high:

  • 1 in 7 people in the state struggles with hunger;
  • 1 in 5 children doesn’t reliably know where their next meal is coming from.

The Food Bank says every $1 can help provide enough food for six meals — and with the match, that impact effectively doubles.

“We’ve seen firsthand the increased need for food in our state, but also the incredible impact gifts like this make in feeding neighbors,” said Executive Director Danica Sveda. “No one should have to choose whether to heat their home for the holidays or put food on the table. Thanks to this gift, we can help eliminate the burden of that choice.”

The Food Bank of Wyoming supports 150 Hunger Relief Partners across the state, including groups like Hole Food Rescue, Good Samaritan Mission and the One22 Resource Center — all of which have been especially active in boosting food access, including during this fall’s federal government shutdown.

Bottom line: whatever you give this month goes twice as far, and it stays in Wyoming to help your neighbors get through the holidays with food on the table.
