Wyoming lawmakers have a new face in the Capitol.

Pine Bluffs Mayor Justin Fornstrom was officially sworn in to the Wyoming House on Dec. 16, stepping into the House District 10 seat left vacant after the death of Rep. John Eklund, who passed away Nov. 14.

The swearing-in was handled by some of the state’s top brass: House Speaker Chip Neiman (R-Hulett) and Wyoming Supreme Court Chief Justice Lynne Boomgaarden, marking the final step in the process to fill Eklund’s seat.

After the ceremony, Fornstrom thanked those who attended and acknowledged the weight of the job ahead.

“I am honored and humbled to take this oath and accept the responsibility of serving the people of House District 10 and the entire State of Wyoming,” Fornstrom said in a statement released by the Legislative Service Office.

Neiman also assigned Fornstrom to two committees right out of the gate: the Joint Agriculture, State and Public Lands & Water Resources Committee and the Select Water Committee.

Fornstrom’s appointment traces back to Dec. 6, when Laramie County commissioners picked him during a special meeting from three nominees put forward by the local Republican Party.

One more water-related detail is coming up soon: the Select Water Committee is expected to elect its next chairman at a meeting on Jan. 21.
