Lander police say an arrest could be just days away after a late-night bar fight on Main Street ended in a man’s death, Oil City News reports.

Police Chief Kelly Waugh told WyoFile on Monday that no one has been arrested yet in connection with the incident, which happened Friday night at the Maverick Lounge, but investigators are now focusing on several people of interest. An arrest, Waugh said, is expected “in the next couple of days.”

Officers were called to the scene around 11:15 p.m. Friday after reports of a fight inside the bar. Medics responded, but one man later died from his injuries, according to a police press release.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name, saying it’s being withheld until next of kin are notified. Waugh declined to confirm the victim’s identity when asked Monday.

Details about what sparked the fight remain unclear. Police haven’t said how many people were involved or what led up to the altercation. Investigators are continuing to gather information, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.

The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has been brought in to help, providing additional manpower and resources. Waugh said the agency is offering “boots on the ground” as the case moves forward.

DCI Commander Ryan Cox said the request for help is routine, especially for smaller police departments.

“It’s common for smaller agencies to ask for assistance of experienced personnel to supplement their limited personnel resources,” Cox said.

As of Monday morning, the investigation included four DCI agents and two Lander police officers.

Waugh said the department plans to update the public once an arrest is made.
