Wyoming won’t dodge this weekend’s coast-to-coast weather show – but it won’t get the worst of it, either. An impactful winter storm sweeping across the country will slam about half the US with ice, feet of snow and record lows, and here at home we’re in for the coldest stretch of what’s been an otherwise mild winter, Oil City News reports.

The National Weather Service in Riverton says Wyoming will mostly miss the heavy precipitation that’s headed for the South and Northeast, but don’t pack away the parkas. Temperatures are set to plunge, with some light snow possible – not nearly enough to erase the season’s dry streak.

Good news: a real warm-up is on deck. By Monday, temps are forecast to rebound into the around-40°F range, offering some relief from the freeze.

Nationwide, the storm is doing the heavy lifting: ice is expected in parts of the South, more than a foot of snow in sections of the Northeast, and meteorologists are warning of record-breaking cold spilling into next week in many places. So even if Wyoming is getting the “cold” part more than the “storm” part, it’s still worth prepping.

Practical tips: protect exposed pipes, keep a close eye on your animals, and give yourself extra time for any travel – even light accumulations and subzero wind chills can make things treacherous. Stay tuned to local NWS updates for last-minute changes.
