With the Wyoming budget session less than two weeks away, Rep. Laurie Bratten (House District 51) stopped by Sheridan’s Eggs and Issues event to walk through a hot-ticket bill and a few other items lawmakers will tackle.

Bratten, who sits on both the House Education and Judiciary committees, said one measure coming out of the Joint Judiciary Committee aims to curb sexually explicit material in school libraries – a topic that’s already been heating up across the state. She didn’t get into page-by-page detail at the event, but flagged the bill as part of a broader push to tighten rules around what materials are available to students.

Beyond the library bill, Bratten touched briefly on other Judiciary Committee proposals headed to the floor – though she saved the deep dives for committee work, where lawmakers will hammer out language and potential fixes.

Practical note: the 2026 Legislative Budget Session kicks off Monday, Feb. 9 and runs through Wednesday, March 11, with two extra days available if needed. That gives lawmakers about a month to pass a two-year budget and move these bills through the process.

Bratten’s appearance was hosted by the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee. Expect the library measure and related Judiciary bills to generate debate early in the session as lawmakers juggle education priorities and the budget timeline.
