Torrington Woman Accused of Allowing Child’s Sexual Abuse in Exchange for Cash
  • Published February 11, 2026

A Torrington woman is facing felony charges for allegedly providing a young child in her custody to her boyfriend, a convicted child sex offender, in exchange for a promised payment of $5,000. Angela Montoya denies the accusations, claiming the explicit text messages detailing abuse were merely fantasies protected by free speech.

Montoya was arrested Jan. 27 following an investigation triggered by the October 2025 conviction of her boyfriend, Alvin Lee Syrovatka, 69. Authorities discovered Syrovatka possessed a secret cellphone containing 92 graphic images and videos of child sexual abuse, along with extensive text conversations between him and Montoya. The messages detailed his persistent requests for sexual access to a child aged 3 or 4 who was under Montoya’s care.

“Early in the string of messages … Syrovatka began asking Montoya permission to sexually abuse the child,” according to the affidavit. When Montoya suggested waiting until the child was older, Syrovatka responded that the child was not too young to learn about sex, repeatedly referring to his intentions as “playing.”

Montoya’s statements to investigators were inconsistent. She initially denied any abuse occurred, describing the messages as Syrovatka’s fantasies. She invoked his First Amendment rights and claimed he was wrongfully convicted. However, she later described feeling threatened by Syrovatka and afraid he would evict her. She also confirmed witnessing an incident where Syrovatka exposed himself to the child, who began to pull down its own pants. Montoya claimed she intervened.

When confronted about Syrovatka’s $5,000 offer for access to the child, Montoya stated she was “in a bad situation” but insisted she would not have allowed the child near him. Despite this, the affidavit states she eventually acknowledged having knowledge that Syrovatka “had regular sexual contact with the child.”

Montoya faces charges of sexual exploitation of a child, conspiracy to commit child sexual exploitation, and accessory before the fact. She is being held in the Goshen County Detention Center on a reduced $25,000 bond.
