A Torrington woman accused of allowing her boyfriend to perform sex acts with a 4-year-old girl in her care for the promise of $5,000 is scheduled for a plea hearing Thursday in Goshen County District Court.

Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Alvin Syrovatka, 69, already convicted by a jury of sexually abusing the girl, will be sentenced Friday. He faces up to 12 years for sexual exploitation of a child and up to 20 years for second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

The case against Angela Montoya gained momentum after Syrovatka’s conviction in October 2025, when investigators learned he had a secret cellphone. The phone contained 92 graphic images and videos depicting sex acts with adults and children, including infants and toddlers, along with extensive text conversations between the couple.

The texts revealed an alleged pattern of abuse against the 4-year-old in Montoya’s custody. Court documents indicate Syrovatka was the child’s guardian.

Montoya’s statements to investigators shifted between denial and admissions of fear. She described Syrovatka taking the girl into the bathroom alone and being threatened by him. She also recounted witnessing an incident where Syrovatka sat on a couch with his penis exposed while the child was present, and the girl began to pull down her pants. Montoya said she intervened before anything happened.

She later claimed the texts were merely Syrovatka’s fantasies protected by free speech and denied any abuse occurred. Regarding the $5,000 offer, she said no money changed hands and she was in a “bad situation” financially but would never have allowed the girl near him.

When pressed again about her knowledge of regular sexual contact between Syrovatka and the child, she confirmed it.

Montoya faces felony charges of sexual exploitation of a child, conspiracy to commit sexual exploitation, and accessory before the fact. Each carries five to 12 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

Both remain in custody at the Goshen County Detention Center.
